There was a 30% increase in household food requests this year compared with last year.
To meet this increased need, we delivered food through our 205 Member Programs, which include:
190 active programs feeding the hungry throughout Westchester County;
9 alternative-distribution sites, where we deliver food and it is then distributed to those in need;
6 rapid-distribution sites, where frozen and perishable foods are rapidly distributed to those in need.
6,053,152 pounds of food were distributed providing 5,044,293 meals to hungry Westchester residents.
849,280 pounds of fresh food were distributed through Project Green Thumb, general distribution and alternative-distribution sites.
141,655 pounds of prepared and perishable food were distributed
by the Food Recovery Program.
401 Nutrition-Education/Sanitation Workshops and food tastings/ demonstrations for member programs and/or their clients were conducted.
Over 3,500 clients and member-program staff benefited.
64 site visits of member programs were conducted.
$1,095,135 was distributed to member agencies as grants for food acquisition, operations support and equipment purchases.
8 Kids Cafes provided 110,196 nutritious meals and snacks to 908 children:

136 kid-friendly nutrition education classes were held reaching 2, 346 kids.
15 Backpack Buddy programs served 736 kids through distribution of 7,887 backpacks.
92 women graduated from STEPS and are taking steps toward self-sufficiency (11 10-week series were offered:
2 in English, 7 in Spanish, and 2 bilingual).
12,175 persons received food stamp information.
1,199 were prescreened for food-assistance eligibility and assisted with completing the Food Stamp application.
243 seniors/homebound persons were assisted with food stamp applications and advocacy via home visits.
2,487 volunteers donated 12,979 hours so that others may eat. |
